Cazenovia company lands big military contract; needs to hire range of workers fast

September 16, 2019

CAZENOVIA, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Knowles Precision Devices of Cazenovia has just landed a big military contract and is in immediate need of workers.

The company was awarded a multi-million dollar contract by BAE to make small parts for Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter program.

Knowles Precision Devices makes a number of small components, filters, for the telecommunications field, along with the military for radars, missiles, and fighter jets.

Tim Brauner is the Thin Film and Single Layer Capacitors Product Line Manager for Knowles Precision Devices. “It’s absolutely a big deal. Not only are our electronics being asked to be smaller but they’re asking to get more out of those electronics,” he says.

The contract with BAE is for 18-months, but the program is expected to continue for at least the next decade needing more parts from Knowles.

Brauner tells NewsChannel 9, “BAE continues to work with our technology, continues to develop new products utilizing our technology for the F-35 but also for other platforms they’re building.”

He says the company had over 50 different job openings just this year that it continues to fill, whether it be low-level technicians all the way up to highly skilled engineers.

Brauner says they’re not always looking for a specific skill set, they hire people right out of high school up to people with advanced degrees.

“There’s nothing better than being able to create jobs in CNY and manufacturing jobs at that point,” he says.

Knowles currently has 350 employees working seven days a week almost around the clock at its Cazenovia plant.
